However there are quite a few things that you need to keep in mind before you start the diploma course. You need to be aware of the fact that there are different types of diplomas that are offered at the high school and you will need to think carefully before you take the plunge. You must talk to your parents and counselors before taking the final decision.

There are five major types of high school diploma. The first is the vocational type. For this you will have to complete the academic course along with a vocational or technical program. The second is the general type. Here you have to maintain a certain number of credits and a minimum stipulated GPA. The third type is the college prep. For this you have to maintain a certain GPA and complete a curriculum mandated by the state.

The forth major type is the honors college prep diploma. For this you need to achieve a high academic level and maintain a stipulated GPA. You need to follow a state mandated curriculum and complement it with some rigorous additional coursework. The last type of diploma is the International Baccalaureate. You have to complete a two year course to meet the standards of International Baccalaureate Organization. This is the most challenging of all the diploma types.
