How to write a cover letter for a job application

Your cover letter is a perfect tool to highlight the key points in your resume. These letters must be good enough to entice the potential employer to scan through your resume which follows. There are three main points that one needs to consider while writing covering letters.

Mention references if any at the beginning/ first paragraph of the cover letter. Reference could include the mention of the person known to the employer who might have recommended you for this job. It might even include a mention of the newspaper publication where the job vacancy was advertised. It is crucial to mention the references at the beginning of the cover letter so as to draw the attention of the potential employer. If the employer knows the person who has referred you, it might increase your chances of getting the employer’s attention.

The second most important thing to mention is your key strengths and skill sets. If your skill sets match the required job profile then the employer might give you an interview call right away. You must also directly indicate your interest in the job in this section.
